Synopsis

~ Synopsis ~

In the middle of the Pacific, the Fiji Islands. A village, a community, nestled between sea and mountains.

An island shaken by climate change. The storm lurks all around, while the Fijians remain calm and share a real impulse for life. The collective strength. Providence. Disappearance.

Words mingle with the elements, and nature intimately weaves together the relationship

between humans and their environment.

Two scales, two parallel ways of looking at things, but both speaking with one voice.

Le projet

~ The project ~

This documentary film is part of a long process that began in November 2017, when I participated in the Youth Conference organized by the Fiji delegation, in parallel with COP23 . This conference crystallized the essence of my project, three years before I began writing it.

Before me stood the first people affected by a disorder I had thought was distant, remote. A profound encounter. Indescribable. A deep desire to share these stories, so rarely heard in Western media, to bring them out of invisibility. This thirst for connection and for fostering connection fueled the idea for this documentary.

In the fall of 2018, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) published its latest report, giving us 12 years to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Twelve years before the situation becomes irreversible. This desire for change and commitment has been growing within me as the urgency of the situation looms, with the feeling that it's time to change, to try, and to act. Now!

Years later, in 2026, this emergency is so acute that entire countries are threatened with submersion. We have not sufficiently reduced our greenhouse gas emissions, and these disruptions are constantly accelerating.

This film, even more than before, appears as a deeply personal necessity: to shed light on the ghosts of this climate crisis whose echoes reach us, yet we never truly experience them. We collectively need new narratives and new ways of talking about this eminently universal subject, in an immersive, sensitive, and sensory manner.

To question our Western perspective, our preconceived notions about nature, to feel the world, to recognize its complexity, to change the way we envision and perceive it through the eyes of those who experience it firsthand. This is the opening I hope to create with this documentary.

While society strives to create division and animosity between individuals, this film fosters connection, points of convergence, and brings a universal dimension to this compartmentalized debate. These testimonies are a way to combat indifference, to move beyond simply trusting experts, and to put humanity back at the heart of our concerns once and for all!
